Microsoft is testing a new way to sell you an Xbox Series X
If you’ve struggled for months to purchase an Xbox Series X or Series S, Microsoft might have a way to help you get one — from your Xbox One.
The adequately named Console Purchase Pilot is a test program for Xbox Insider members to register for a chance to reserve either of the newest Xbox consoles, Microsoft announced Tuesday.
Microsoft is making the pilot program available to a small selection of Xbox One-owning Insider members, who will receive a message notifying them that they’re one of the lucky few able to take the offer, the company said in a comment on the Xbox Insider subreddit. Should the member accept, they’ll be able to buy a Series S or Series X directly from their Xbox One (the only platform the offer is available on) once notified via the Xbox Insider Hub that a console is available.
There’s no word yet on whether Microsoft intends to expand this plan. But as the company is currently offering it only to Xbox Insiders — Xbox owners who volunteer to test new software updates and offer feedback — it may be that should things go smoothly, buying a new Xbox Series S or Series X directly from a last-gen console could be a great way to get ahead of the bots and hoarders that have made it next to impossible to purchase new hardware.
