Rock Jaw’s new Avant Air earbuds offer impressive sound from the British firm
Rock Jaw is a British earphones brand and has been making some impressive noises in the mobile audio space.
The nine-year-old firm says everything it does is about uncompromising quality and exceeding expectations.
It’s latest £120 device is the Avant Air, a pair of swish looking earbuds that they confidently describe as “possibly the world’s most comfortable”.
Well we liked them.
But are not quite sure they live up to such a bold statement.

Because yes, the Avant Air’s are light, just 13g in weight, fit the ear nicely and are comfortable, but they don’t stand out from the crowd.
That said, what you have here is a good solid mid-range set of true wireless buds.
They use advanced Bluetooth wireless communications technology to maintain connection that doesn’t drop and that’s backed by the latest Qualcomm tech inside.

They’ve got a waterproof rating of IPX5 standard that can shrug off sweat if you want to pound the streets on a run to your favourite tracks.
There’s a lengthy 12-hours battery life in a single charge, and while the charging case looks a little plasticky it’s well designed and has a fancy overall vibe. It provides an extra 39 hours of charge.
And the sound – ultimately the most important thing – is impressive, particularly on dance tracks.
The firm’s use of the latest high-quality audio codecs means clear definition between the higher trills and bassy lows.
Ausounds AU-Stream earbuds review: Jagged sound at high volume dents the appeal
You get that real thump in your gut from a club banger while clear definition in the vocal mix.
But when it comes to guitar based music it felt much flatter, and there was less definition, almost a flatness in some songs that we didn’t experience when reviewing the Sennheiser CX 400BT True Wireless earbuds (£99) recently.
So work to do, but this is a strong entry into the earbuds market for the British firm and shows huge promise.
We can’t wait to see what they do next and how they refine their designs further to really give their products that wow-factor.
