Everyone loves Elden Ring’s cute pot boys

FromSoftware’s Elden Ring finally came out of hiding on Thursday, after two years of deafening silence about the new adventure from Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin. It looked spectacular, in a next-gen Dark Souls kind of way, with its gigantic lightning-chucking dragons, double-jumping horses, a spider made of fingers, a brand-new Tall Lady to obsess over, and, of course, those pots.

Oh, those pots.

Elden Ring’s first gameplay trailer barely hinted at the existence of anthropomorphic pots, but they’ve becoming a quiet sensation since they were revealed. It seems everyone — there are dozens of us! — loves the little pot with arms and legs, and the slightly larger pot with arms and legs. In case you blacked out during yesterday’s Elden Ring reveal, here’s a look at one in motion:

It’s not much, but in an action-packed and mood-setting trailer, it was nice to see a wee sentient pot just cruising around. The pot lad, or vase boi as some are calling it (we’ve asked Bandai Namco what their official name is), immediately gives off vibes similar to the irascible Mushroom People and Mimics of Dark Souls, in that they are simple objects, loving and refreshingly redesigned. One can only hope that the walking containers of Elden Ring will be similarly surly, and lead to players dying unexpectedly. After all, it’s just a pot, right? How could that one-hit kill you?

Unsurprisingly, fan art of Elden Ring’s pots is already flourishing.

And finally, a triple shot of the ornery, ring-hungry pot boy from artist Mighty Ybaba.
