Destiny 2’s Sparrows getting instant summoning in Beyond Light
On Thursday, Bungie revealed a good bit of news around Destiny 2 ahead of the game’s Beyond Light expansion, out Nov. 10. Between its weekly blog post and a Twitch stream, the studio touched on progression and transmog, as well as the best Sparrow announcement in years.
A few weeks ago, Bungie revealed plans to dramatically change how Ghosts work in Destiny 2. But the studio didn’t mention the Ghost’s currently most popular mod: Speed Demon. Speed Demon allows players to instantly mount their in-game motorcycle — the Sparrow — without having to hold the button down for a few seconds. It’s often viewed as a “must-have perk” on all Ghosts. On Thursday, Bungie revealed that all Sparrows will summon instantly, completely removing the need for Speed Demon.
On The Weekly stream, game director Luke Smith also announced that Destiny 2 fans can Transmog their gear — changing the look of an item without altering the stats — to another piece of armor they’ve earned in the past. Players don’t need to physically keep this armor to Transmog it, Bungie will pull from all armor players have previously earned — allowing fans to free-up some much-needed Vault space. Bungie announced its plans for a Transmog system months ago, but we still don’t know when it will arrive.
Community manager Dmg04 took to Twitter to confirm and elaborate on Smith’s announcement.
Aside from the Sparrow and Transmog changes, Bungie also announced a few major updates to the game’s progression and economy via the weekly blog post.
Bungie will simplify players’ progression in Beyond Light. All players — new and veteran — will start at at least 1050 Power (with higher Power players maintaining their current Power). Players will also have more options to increase their Power in Beyond Light, with activities offering additional Powerful drops after their weekly challenge is rewarded. While Bungie assured players diversifying their play is still the fastest way to the new 1250 Power cap, playing a single activity for most of the week will still increase your Power moving forward.
In Beyond Light, Bungie will offer players more Bright Dust — the in-game currency used to purchase cosmetic items — from the game’s Season Pass. And players can buy more prestigious upgrade materials, like Enhancement Prisms, from The Spider.
With less than two weeks until Destiny 2: Beyond Light, Bungie is ramping its efforts to detail players on the more esoteric changes coming in Year 4. In next week’s blog, Bungie will reveal part of the Beyond Light patch notes. The game will then go down for 14 hours ahead of the new expansion, with servers shutting down on Nov. 9 at 10 p.m. EST and coming back up on Nov. 10 at 12 p.m. EST.
Bungie will launch Destiny 2: Beyond Light on Nov. 10 for Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One. On Dec. 8, Bungie will launch the next-gen version for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
