Xbox Series X next gen dashboard revealed in new video
The dashboard for next gen Xboxes doesn’t look like it’s changed all that much from how it is now, but it will be up to 50% faster.
The Xbox One has come under a lot of criticism this generation, some of it fair and some of it not, but one of the most universally unpopular elements has been its dashboard interface.
The original version was based on Windows Phone, which was still a thing at the time, but while it’s been changed many times since then it still has a reputation for being slow and confusing.
The slowness should hopefully disappear in the next gen but visually the new dashboard looks largely unchanged, which is perhaps less surprising when you consider how obsessed Microsoft is with backwards compatibility at the moment.
Although the new dashboard has been designed with the Xbox Series X in mind it will also be used on the Xbox One, Game Pass on the PC, and Xbox mobile apps.
A new blog post goes into a little more detail, promising that the Home screen will load 50% faster when booting up the console and 30% faster when coming out of a game.
The Microsoft Store app will launch in ‘about’ two seconds but the blog admits that, ‘The overall layout of most of the console pages remains familiar, just faster and more focused’.
‘If some of these updates look familiar, it’s because you helped us build them over the past year through our Xbox Insider program,’ adds the blog.
It’s implied some of the changes will come to Xbox One within the ‘coming weeks’, building up to the launch of Xbox Series X sometime in November.
