Valheim coming to Xbox in early 2023 with crossplay support

PC Game Pass subscribers can play Valheim as early as this autumn, with an Xbox release to follow sometime next spring.

During the recent Xbox showcase, Microsoft laid out all the games that will be releasing for Xbox and PC over the next 12 months, including which ones will be added to Xbox Game Pass.

Among them was Viking survival game Valheim, although it was only shown for a moment and developer Iron Gate has only now clarified when fans can expect it to make the jump to console.

It’ll still be a while, but the game is currently scheduled to come to Xbox and Xbox Game Pass in early 2023, specifically during the spring. So, March at the absolute earliest.

PC Game Pass subscribers, however, will be able to access the game much earlier via the Microsoft store when it arrives this autumn.

Iron Gate has also confirmed that there will be full crossplay support between the Xbox and PC versions (that includes the Steam release). Although there don’t appear to be any plans on implementing cross-progression between the Steam and Xbox versions.

It’s worth noting that Valheim is still in early access. In fact, the original plan was to wait until the game was properly finished before porting it to consoles.

When this was brought up by a fan on Twitter, the official Valheim account explained that ‘new opportunities arose’ and it’s able to bring the game to other platforms sooner than expected.
