The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Might Be Nintendo’s First $70 Game
For a while now, it's expected that some of the biggest games out there will cost $70. Sony didn't start the trend of charging more for games, but it's normalized the practice so much that games like Forspoken cost a little more than they would have previously. Xbox announced in late 2022 that it would be joining Sony in charging $70 for its biggest games going forward, and it now seems like Nintendo is following suit.
First spotted by Wario64 on Twitter, the Nintendo eShop page for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom very briefly listed the game for $69.99, suggesting that Nintendo is about to increase the prices of it biggest titles just like Sony and Microsoft. The price listing has been covered up once again in favour of a "Releasing in 2023" disclaimer, but not before many people managed to their screenshots just in time.
While it's possible this could have been a pricing error, a similar $10 mark up on the game's Canadian eShop page makes a deliberate price increase more likely. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will probably show up at the Nintendo Direct set to take place tomorrow, so it's possible the price was revealed a little early by accident before the official reveal.
As pointed out by Wario, retailers are still accepting pre-orders for the standard $59.99 and will likely honor that price should Nintendo announce an increase. If you have plans to journey through Hyrule once again later this year, you might want to grab your pre-order now to ensure you get it at the original price. We'll probably find out after the show whether this price increase is genuine or not, but it seems likely given industry trends at the moment, and people will be more than happy to spend some extra cash on a game as high-profile as Zelda.
