Spider-Man on PS5 sparks fan confusion over free upgrades

With the PS4 Spider-Man being remastered for PS5, Sony is keeping fans in the dark over whether it’ll be offered as a free upgrade or not.

After some initial confusion and a lack of details from Sony, we now officially know that the upcoming Spider-Man: Miles Morales for PlayStation 5 will come with an upgraded remaster of the original PlayStation 4 Spider-Man game.

Or rather the more expensive Ultimate Edition will include the remaster, but this has only led to further confusion, as fans are now wondering if anyone who bought the PlayStation 4 game is entitled to a free PlayStation 5 upgrade.

Considering Sony held a PlayStation 5 showcase only a couple of days ago, where it showed a new demo for Miles Morales but made no mention of the remaster, this kind of information should really have been shared then.

This is far from the only example of Sony being vague on important details. That same showcase failed to mention that Miles Morales is also releasing as a PlayStation 4 title, despite being billed as a PlayStation 5 exclusive.

And then there was the original reveal of the game, when many assumed it was the actual sequel, only to be told later by a Sony executive that it was a remaster of the original with extra content, and then told that it wasn’t a remaster but a standalone title.

Fans on social media are quickly growing restless. As it stands, Miles Morales on PlayStation 4 can be upgraded to the PlayStation 5 version for free, but only to the standard edition.

The original Spider-Man game offered similar bonuses for pre-orders, though since the costumes and gadgets could be unlocked in the game regardless, we can probably assume that it’s the same here.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales will release for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on November 12th in North America and on November 19th in the UK.
