Sony To Host A "Pretty Big" State Of Play In February According To Multiple Insiders

Multiple sources have claimed that Sony will be hosting its first State of Play showcase of the year some time in February. There's no word as of yet on what the focus of this showcase will be, but if sources are to be believed, it has the potential of being a big one.

The source in question is Tom Henderson, who is a reliable source when it comes to information on titles like Call of Duty, Battlefield and Halo Infinite. "The current rumor is that the next Sony event looks like it could be in February based on this month's media events and past PlayStation dates," said his tweet. "It'll probably be State of Play, but it has the potential to be a pretty big one IMO."

This claim has also been corroborated by AccountNGT, who has been known to report reliable information on Quantic Dream. They were responsible for revealing images of Star Wars: Eclipse days before the official announcement, and also reported on the development of a title based on The Dark Sorcerer. "It's coming, I will have a lot of information to deliver when it will be announced," replied AccountNGT to a question about the State of Play on their timeline.

As for the content of the showcase, it's doubtful that any of Sony's big first-party releases will be featured. Horizon: Forbidden West and Elden Ring will be launching in February itself, and any information on God of War: Ragnarok is probably going to be saved for a later date. Considering the ongoing buzz around the PlayStation VR2 and the recently released teaser for Horizon: Call of the Mountain, it wouldn't be surprising if the showcase revolved around Sony's new VR headset and its offerings.

The PlayStation VR2 was officially revealed last week by Sony. The headset will launch alongside the VR2 Sense controller, promising "a heightened range of sensations unlike any other". The next-gen version of the VR headset will offer greater visual fidelity, with 4K HDR and a 110-degree field of view. It will also feature an OLED display and a panel resolution of 2000×2040 per eye. No launch date has been confirmed as of yet.
