PS5 could end up the biggest console launch of all time
Despite the PlayStation 5’s rather awkward launch, word on the street is that it’s still a phenomenal sales success for Sony.
Between high demand, scalpers, websites crashing, delayed deliveries, and some Amazon customers receiving bags of rice instead, there’s no denying that the PlayStation 5’s launch has been a bit messy.
However, while there has been no official statement from Sony, it sounds as if the PlayStation 5’s release has still been hugely successful for the company.
Word of this comes from GamesIndustry.biz’s Christopher Dring, who suggests that the PlayStation 5 console could very well be the biggest console launch ever.
And even with the coronavirus pandemic no doubt affecting production, Dring adds that this is more than what Sony has been able to produce for previous launches.
According to Dring, the PS5’s sales numbers are bigger than the PlayStation 4’s, which currently holds the honour of being the fastest-selling console of all time in the UK.
If what Dring has heard is accurate, though, the PlayStation 5 could very well have taken that spot, despite releasing under much more strenuous circumstances.
It’s certainly believable. When pre-orders first went live, the PlayStation 5 managed to sell more in 12 hours than the PlayStation 4 did in 12 days.
The PlayStation 5 is available now (technically, if there was any stock).
