In Pokemon Go, Mega Evolutions exclusively have to do with the Raiding feature in the game, whether it be their use or acquisition. To obtain these powered up versions of certain Pokemon, you will have to use Mega Energy, a valuable resource that can only be earned through the successful completion of Mega Raids.

Mega Steelix is one of the few Mega Evolutions currently available in Pokemon Go, an extremely powerful Steel and Ground-type Pokemon. Defeating Mega Steelix in its Raid is no easy task, so we've put together a complete guide for this encounter.

Recommended Group Size

Mega Raids are one of the more difficult PvE encounters currently in the game, and Mega Steelix's Raid is no different. Due to the bulkiness and powerful attacks of this Pokemon, it is best if you attempt this Raid with a large group size to guarantee victory.

For this particular Raid, we recommended that you battle with a group of at least three to five high-leveled Trainers. Even with a large group size like this, it's still important that all members of your Raid party are using strong Mega Steelix counters in battle.

Mega Evolving is extremely useful when preparing for a difficult Raid battle, so make sure to do this if possible.

Doing this will not only increase the CP of the Mega Evolved Pokemon, but it will also increase the damage of all attacks that are the same type as the Pokemon that was Mega Evolved. This bonus applies to all members of your Raid team.

Mega Steelix: Strengths And Weaknesses

Mega Steelix is a Steel and Ground dual-type Pokemon, and because of this it has specific strengths and weaknesses on the battlefield. This Pokemon has several resistances, including Normal, Flying, Bug, Steel, Psychic, Dragon, Fairy, Rock, Electric, and Poison-type attacks. You will want to avoid using Pokemon that have attacks of these types.

Mega Steelix is extremely resistant to Rock, Electric, and Poison-type attacks.

Rock and Electric-type attacks will only deal 39 percent of their standard damage, and Poison-type attacks will only do 24 percent of their standard damage.

Unfortunately, Mega Steelix has far fewer weaknesses compared to its resistances. This Mega Evolution is vulnerable to Fighting, Ground, Fire, and Water-type attacks, so make sure to use Pokemon with attacks of these types four types if possible.

On top of using Pokemon with attacks that Mega Steelix is weak to, make sure to take advantage of STAB.

Use attacks that match the user's type to activate this bonus, increasing the damage that these attacks deal in battle.

Mega Steelix: Best Counter Picks

As mentioned previously, to maximize the chances of your success in this Raid battle you will want to take advantage of Mega Steelix's weaknesses. This means using strong Pokemon with either Fire, Fighting, Ground, or Water-type attacks.

We have compiled a list of the best Mega Steelix counters that are currently in the game, providing you with options for all four types that this Pokemon is weak to.

Using the Pokemon that are listed below will give you the best chances of success for this specific Raid battle, but they aren't necessarily required.

You should still be able to successfully complete this Mega Raid as long as you are using powerful Fire, Fighting, Ground, or Water types.
