Netflix Offers First Look At Cyberpunk 2077 Anime Edgerunners

Geeked Week is coming. Netflix’s celebration of all things geeky, which in Netflix’s world means sci-fi and fantasy shows, offers a sneak peek at upcoming programs and returning seasons for some of the streaming giant’s biggest hits.

Today’s trailer confirms Geeked Week will arrive on June 6 and last until June 10, bringing with it new looks at the coming seasons of Stranger Things, Umbrella Academy, Shadow and Bone, and Cuphead. We also got a few snippets of Netflix’s brand-new shows, including Sandman and the Cyberpunk anime, Cyberpunk 2077: Edgerunners.

We didn’t get a lot to go on from the few shots that the trailer presented. There was a screaming face, a guy in a yellow jacket, someone on a motorcycle, and a bionically enhanced muscle dude showing off his chrome. The art style certainly looks great, but that’s to be expected from Studio Trigger.

Cyberpunk 2077: Edgerunners was announced way back in June 2020. Set in Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City, the show will be about a young man forced to become an “edgerunner,” a mercenary outlaw willing to do anything if the price is right. The show will run for 10 episodes, with Kill la Kill and BNA animation studio Trigger providing the visuals. Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka will provide Edgerunners’ soundtrack.

Netflix didn’t provide us with a release date, but we can likely expect something during Geeked Week.

We most recently got our first look at the live-action Resident Evil show coming soon to Netflix. Starring Lance Reddick as Albert Wesker, the show offers a new perspective on Resident Evil through the eyes of Wesker's daughters. Jade is shown flashing back to a simpler, happier past that included her sister Billie, who is conspicuously absent during the zombie apocalypse scenes. That might be some foreshadowing right there, but you can decide for yourself by checking out the teaser trailer.
