Marvel’s Spider-Man is the best-selling PS4 exclusive game ever in the US
It may not be the most highly rated, and it may end up being beaten by The Last Of Us, but Spider-Man is the best-selling exclusive on PS4.
Since sales figures are hardly ever released for video games it’s always been very hard to tell exactly how popular some of them are. You always get a general sense, but would you be able to rank the top five selling PlayStation 4 exclusives purely by guesswork? Well, lucky there’s no need thanks to this official list.
It’s by dollar sales, rather than units sold, which is a bit weird, but the list is official as it comes from NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella.
The rankings are only based on US figures but while Marvel isn’t especially big in Japan this top five list is certainly likely to be the same for the UK, which tends to have very similar taste in games to the US.

There’s no indication of what kind of sales gap there might be between any of the games, but the rankings do include both digital and physical sales, just not games sold with console bundles.
We’ve added in the current Metacritic score for each game, where, as you can see, Spider-Man has the joint lowest rating despite being the most successful.
It’s also our least favourite game of the bunch and the only one out of the five we gave a score lower than 8/10 (you can click through to our original reviews of each game below).
Top 5 selling PS4 exclusives in the US
1. Marvel’s Spider-Man (87)
2. God Of War (94)
3. Horizon Zero Dawn (89)
4. The Last Of Us Part 2 (94)
5. Final Fantasy 7 Remake (87)
Since it’s only just come out there’s a very good chance that The Last Of Us Part 2 will rise up the ranks over time, although it’s unclear whether the imminent release of the PlayStation 5 will help or hinder its long-term sales.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake is also unlikely to remain a PlayStation exclusive for long and will almost certainly come to PC and, probably, Xbox.
From this list though you can certainly see why Sony would’ve wanted a Spider-Man game available for the PlayStation 5’s launch, even if Spider-Man: Miles Morales is just a spin-off and not a full sequel.
Horizon Zero Dawn has also confirmed a sequel for PlayStation 5 but so far there’s been no sign of God Of War 2, even though the cliffhanger ending of the last one made it clear another is on its way.
