Lego Mario Kart: Home Circuit combo is the best video you’ll see today

Someone has managed to combine Lego Super Mario and Mario Kart: Home Circuit into one impressively interactive real-world course.

Last year’s Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection may have been a disappointingly low effort affair, but Nintendo did manage to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. in other more interesting ways.

The Lego Super Mario line of toy sets was great and Mario Kart: Home Circuit, which involves controlling a real remote control car around your living room floor, was a fantastically imaginative idea… and now they’ve been combined into one.

The video below involves the Bluetooth Mario minifigure from the Lego sets being attached to the back of the Home Circuit car so that it can be driven around and detect objects as it passes them, creating the most interactive real-world Mario Kart course ever.

To be honest, we’re not entirely sure who Playfool are but they describe themselves as a design studio ‘most of the time’, that enjoys creating videos about using your creativity.

As vague as that sounds there’s no doubting the quality of their work and they’ve even offered up a bunch of PDFs so you can print out your own versions of the objects they’ve created.

The Lego minifigure is already able to detect different colours and bar codes, which is used to tell which Lego bricks you land it on, but Playfool have adapted this so it also works with Home Circuit.

The use of checkpoints is very clever but running over barcoded goombas is pure genius, especially the big giant one.

The way they make AR markers for Home Circuit using Lego (and cakes, apparently) is also great and we’re sure Nintendo will approve if they see this.
