Here’s Your First Look At The Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Suit In Miles Morales

Insomniac Games maintains the tradition of awesome Spider-Man costumes with the latest Miles Morales costume.

With two weeks until launch, Insomniac Games has revealed the second preorder cosmetic for Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Based on Into the Spiderverse, this costume for Miles may possibly hold the title for the most faithful recreation of a movie costume in a videogame.

Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse released in 2018, and quickly became a fan favorite thanks to its iconic animation and exceptional storytelling. The film was rendered in 3D, but borrows a lot of stylized effects from traditional, 2D comic books.

The Spiderverse costume for Miles Morales is no different, featuring the classic spray-painted logo and colors that seem to be drawn pulled from the pages of a comic. The best part about this suit is that its framerate matches that of the movie, and shares a similar animation technique.

For most of the film, Miles is, “animated on twos,” meaning that each frame of animation lasts for two frames. Animated films are typically 24 frames per second, meaning that while Miles is on screen each second of his animation only features 12 frames.

This intentional design choice makes Miles look choppy in comparison to the world around him, a reflection of his lack of experience as a superhero. As the film progresses and he becomes more familiar with his powers, he starts to be animated in a full 24 frames.

In Miles Morales, the costume shares the same style as the film. It is once again animated on twos, the main character running at a lower frame rate than the game’s world. At first this change is incredibly jarring, though this may be due to the fact that it is unexpected and players should quickly get used to it.

The attention to detail on this suit is a great indicator of Insomniac’s dedication to creating a great experience for Marvel fans. By incorporating cosmetics and storylines from a long history of Marvel comics and films, fans of all ages will be able to find something that they have a connection to.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales launches on November 12 alongside the PS5. Players who want the Spiderverse suit in the game will need to preorder the title before its release.
