GTA 6 might not be coming out for years, and to fill that space, Rockstar Games has one Grand Theft Auto project that isn’t exactly exciting fans.
The enhanced next-gen version of GTA 5 was revealed this week during the PlayStation Showcase, and its official trailer failed to wow the masses.
While there will be many fans looking forward to buying a dedicated version of GTA 5 for PS5 and Xbox Series X, there are many who have already enjoyed several different versions by now.
And those who have already played GTA 5 and GTA Online on Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and Xbox One, there might not be much of a need to spend more cash on it.
But it appears that until the parent company Take-Two Interactive is done with GTA 5, there won’t be another next-gen version to play.
And fans might not have been happy to hear that the new version for PS5 and Xbox Series X will not be available to play in 2021.
Rockstar Games has now confirmed that they have delayed the release until March 2022, telling gamers:
“Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online will now arrive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S March 2022, featuring a range of technical and graphical improvements across the entire experience, including performance enhancements for select vehicles in GTA Online, and so much more.
“While we are extremely excited to be bringing GTAV to the latest generation of consoles, the game requires a few additional months for polishing and fine-tuning.
“We look forward to sharing more details about these expanded and enhanced versions soon, including the new standalone version of GTA Online also coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in March.
GTA Online: Rockstar Games tease The Cayo Perico Heist
“The new standalone version of GTA Online will be available to claim for FREE on PlayStation 5 for the first three months after launch in March 2022 (Does not require GTAV to play).”
And a recent fiscal report also revealed another big reason why Rockstar may be happy to bide its time developing GTA 6.
Nearly every quarter, GTA Online is raking in almost a quarter of a billion dollars, and this is despite GTA 5 and GTA Online being almost eight years old.
A report from NetBet.co.uk has also analysed the top-grossing video games which saw year-on-year growth.
And GTA V was ranked fourth, ahead of games such as The Sims 4, Pokemon Go, League of Legends and Candy Crush Saga.
According to the report, GTA V had annual revenue of $911,000,000 in 2020 – which was a 53.11 per cent increase year-on-year.
The only hope gamers have right now in playing something fresh in the Grand theft Auto franchise is linked to reports that Rockstar Games will launch remastered versions of GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas.
