Firegirl Is An Upcoming “Action Rescue Platformer” That Follows The Journey Of A Young Firefighter
Thunderful Publishing and Dejima Games revealed Firegirl today during Guerilla Collective – an upcoming platforming game that puts you into the shoes of a young firefighter battling through flames to save the citizens of their town.
Firegirl gives you a couple of tools that should make your job easier, including a powerful ax to break through debris and a fire hose that also works as a jetpack. The game features a procedurally generated city, so you can expect a new experience every time you go out on a rescue mission.
“Firefighting is such a thrilling setup to create our vision of an action rescue platformer,” Dejima founder, Julien Ribassin, said. “We wanted to capture the sense of imminent danger that comes facing this natural disaster and translate it into a whimsical arcade adventure. Although the players will come face to face roaring blazes and fire-monsters, the goal is rescuing and helping survivors. Firegirl was designed with both newcomers and veterans to the genre of action platformers in mind, and we can’t wait for people to try it out for themselves when it launches this Fall.”
Beyond putting out fires, you’ll also be fighting pyro-monsters, upgrading your equipment, hiring new staff for the station, and searching each level for a bunch of hidden collectibles. Check out the fire fighting in action below:
Time is of the essence, as each level in Firegirl only gives you three minutes to save your targets and get out of the inferno. It sounds like that time can be extended through certain in-game actions, although we’ll have to wait and learn more about how it’ll all play out.
Thunderful already boasts a roster of unique games – including Steamworld Quest: Hand of Gilgamesh and Lonely Mountains: Downhill – and it sounds like the team is excited to add Firegirl to the family.
“We’re always on the lookout for new, exciting games at Thunderful and Firegirl is right up our alley,” Thunderful’s Head of Publishing, Dieter Schoeller, said. “It takes the seemingly simple concept of fighting fires and makes it utterly captivating. It’s the perfect pick up and play title, offering a zippy arcade twist on rescuing people from an environmental disaster.”
Firegirl will launch this Fall on PC, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and PS5.
