Final Fantasy 7 Remake PS Plus Players To Get Free PS5 Upgrade
Final Fantasy 7 Remake will celebrate its second birthday in 2022. However, it has been making headlines for a couple of reasons in the run-up to Christmas. Not just the bad news surrounding the launch of its long-awaited PC port, but also some good news for those of you who downloaded the game for free through PlayStation Plus earlier this year.
News that a game of the year contender only a little more than 12 months old was coming to PS Plus was understandably welcomed. However, the addendum that those who acquired the game via PS Plus would not be eligible for the free PS5 upgrade didn't go down well at all. There wasn't even an option to pay for the upgrade, which in turn meant no Intermission DLC since Yuffie's additional chapters are a PS5 exclusive.
Square Enix has now made an about-turn in that regard. Those of you who downloaded FF7 Remake through PS Plus earlier this year will be able to download the PS5 upgrade for free from December 22. If that wasn't enough to drastically improve your holiday season, Square revealed in the same tweet that the aforementioned Yuffie DLC will be 25% off for a limited time. That offer presumably applies to everyone who doesn't already have the DLC.
As touched upon above, FF7 Remake has been in dire need of some good news. Its PC port launched last week and those playing the game on its new platform are less than pleased. Some have even labeled one of the worst triple-A PC ports for a long time. Perhaps it will be best to stick to the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game if possible, especially now you can upgrade for free if you downloaded it via PS Plus.
The free PS5 upgrade for PS Plus subscribers will be available later this week, from December 22. If you downloaded the game for free and then paid for the PS5 version for the better visuals and the Yuffie DLC, well, at least you've been able to enjoy it before anyone who didn't decide to do that. If you had waited you could have got the upgrade for free, but you could really say that about any games you've paid for that have then come to PS Plus at a later date.
