Final Fantasy 14 Update Introduces New Dungeon And Buried Memory Story

Square Enix has taken the covers off Final Fantasy 14’s update 6.2. Buried Memory will include a new main quest, a new dungeon, and the much-anticipated Island Sanctuary, plus more coming in update 6.25.

Highlighting Buried Memory will be a new story where the Warrior of Light sets off on a quest with dragons. "Five millennia ago, the great wyrm Azdaja vanished into the void, and for long years Vrtra had despaired of being reunited with his dear sister," reads the official Buried Memory site. "With the encouragement of his people, however, he has found the resolve to search for her, and sets forth with the Warrior of Light for a world engulfed in Darkness…"

Aside from the new main quest, Final Fantasy 14 fans will be able to enjoy some fun in the sun courtesy of the new Island Sanctuary. Intended as a unique getaway, the Island Sanctuary will let players lay down their swords (or staffs or whatever other weapons they have on them) and just veg. In some cases literally, as the Island Sanctuary will allow players to plant and harvest crops.

A new dungeon called The Fell Court of Troia harkens back to Final Fantasy 4’s matriarchal kingdom. "Beyond the emptiness of the rift awaits a shadowed castle swarming with voidsent, and you steel yourselves for a hostile reception," warns Square Enix. You can see just how hostile this reception gets in the trailer above.

As with every Final Fantasy 14 update, there are new recipes, new minions, new emotes, new fashion accessories, and new mounts, including this weird alien blob. The Duty Support system is also expanding to include five additional dungeons from A Realm Reborn and Heavensward. The new duties will include Snowcloak, the Keeper of the Lake, Sohm Al, the Aery, and the Vault.

We also got to see a preview of what’s coming in patch 6.25 courtesy of today’s Letter from the Producer livestream. This includes new weapon enhancement quests for Manderville weapons and new tribe quests. Final Fantasy 14 patch 6.2: Buried Memory arrives August 23.
