Fans Aren’t Loving The New Sonic 3 Music Tracks In Origins

Sonic Origins launched this week, and it's been met with a mixed reception from fans. While players love having four classic Sonic games all in one package, performance issues and bugs have plagued the release, especially on PC it seems. And to make matters worse, some of the best music tracks in Sonic 3 are gone.

Due to some kind of copyright issue, tracks for levels including Ice Cap Zone and Carnival Night Zone couldn't be included in this rerelease. In their place, we got remixes of the stage's demo tracks. However, despite these being brand new compositions, fans think they sound much worse than what we got in the original Mega Drive release, which is almost three decades ago now.

Ever since the tracks were discovered, they've become frequent targets of ridicule. Ice Cap Zone Act One has been hit particularly bad, having long been a fan favourite track from the Mega Drive era.

Carnival Night Zone's new tracks haven't received a warm welcome either. Gone is the iconic clown world beat, as it's replaced by a theme that isn't anywhere near as catchy and memorable.

While causing less offence, Launch Base Zone and the Super Sonic Theme have all received changes too. Yet everyone still seems to be in agreement that the new songs are much weaker than the originals.

In fact, it seems to be one of the few things that Sonic fans can agree on right now. "It feels like I'm listening to these songs though a pillow with how muffled they sound", writes YouTube user

thepuzzlemaster64, replying to a video featuring the new soundtrack. Vazoverse agrees, replying "Some of these songs give me more Game Gear than Genesis."

Some fans are even saying that the new tracks are so bad that Sega has to do something to stop them from being used again. "Sega need to get the license for the Sonic 3 music back", says YouTuber LonelyGoomba. "I’m sorry but the prototype tracks are shite."

If this isn't enough to deter you, Sonic Origins is out now. It's available to play on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
