Fable and Perfect Dark hints denied by Microsoft, but fans think they're real

Official Twitter accounts for Fable and Perfect Dark aren’t indicative of new games says Microsoft, but some are unconvinced.

There have been rumours and hints pointing towards Microsoft making new entries in the Fable and Perfect Dark series for a while now.

These beliefs only got stronger over the weekend, as it was discovered that there were two placeholder Twitter accounts for the two series.

The accounts’ existence were shared by The Verge journalist Tom Warren, with both being registered to Microsoft email addresses. On top of that @PerfectDark’s first follower was Ken Lobb, an Xbox exec and producer of the original Perfect Dark.

Aaron Greenberg, general manager of Xbox Games Marketing, responded to Warren’s Tweets with claims that the accounts in question have been inactive for years and were only made as a means of securing the name and avoiding cybersquatters.

The Perfect Dark account has even updated its profile to state that it’s not affiliated with Microsoft and tweeted that it’s only a fan-made account. The Fable one remains unchanged.

You’d think that would be the end of it, but many are unconvinced and believe this could be a misdirection on Microsoft’s part. It certainly seems a highly suspicious time to suddenly activate a dormant account, potentially just days before the big Xbox Series X reveal event in July.

Warren himself pointed out that, while Greenberg says the accounts have been around for years, one of them was registered in March 2020 and the other in June 2020, meaning they’re actually very recent.

Not to mention that, if the Perfect Dark account is simply fan-made, then doesn’t that contradict what Greenberg said about it being a placeholder to protect the name?

If Microsoft does have new Fable and Perfect Dark games to announce, it will most likely do so at its upcoming July presentation, where it will be showing off first party titles for its Xbox Series X console.

Although the existence of a new Perfect Dark is less certain it’s practically an open secret that Forza Horizon developer Playground Games are working on a new Fable. Instead the biggest question is simply when it will be announced.
