Ex-Rockstar Artist Imagines The Last Of Us And Resident Evil Village As Retro Comics

A former Rockstar Games senior artist, Mark Scicluna, has envisioned what The Last of Us Part 2 and Resident Evil Village would look like if they were retro comics.

Scicluna, for context, is renowned for his work as an illustrator on the likes of Bully, L.A. Noire, Red Dead Redemption 2, and GTA Online. He’s drawn a variety of games as comics in the past with his Twitter heading alone sporting the likes of Dino Crisis, Crash Bandicoot, Uncharted, and Spyro.

He clearly has a soft spot for Naughty Dog, but he’s drawn works for God of War, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 3, Horizon Zero Dawn, and more. There are so many that he’s even put together a personal book for himself to keep track of all his creations.

The first two comics pictured above (from the left) depict The Last of Us Part 2, with Ellie front and center. We also get a look at Scicluna’s take on the clickers in the top left of the first. The second gives us a look at Abby, Jesse, and Joel in the featuring section.

As for the third, it’s a glimpse of the now-iconic Lady Dimitrescu and two of her daughters from the perspective of Ethan Winters with his rather unfortunate hands pushed outward in fear. They aren’t quite as mutilated as they were in the game by this point, though, so he’s got that going for him.

Beneviento and her doll can even be seen in the top left. The retro style is also complemented by the wear and tear that’s been emulated from the scratches to the rips, giving that extra flair of authenticity.

Interestingly enough, The Last of Us has had a comic run before, with Neil Druckmann helming a limited series in 2013 called American Dreams published by Dark Horse. Resident Evil has had a few of its own as well as some manga which isn’t too surprising given how long-running the survival horror series is, dating back to the ’90s.
