Disney Executive Says Kenobi Is Releasing In May
A Disney+ executive might have just accidentally leaked Kenobi's release month.
Kenobi has been in the works for some time, but we still haven't seen anything from it beyond some interviews with cast members and a little bit of concept art. Despite this, Disney has said several times that the series will be debuting in 2022, something that might just have been backed up by a Disney employee.
As reported by IGN, in a now-deleted Tweet, Disney+ manager Brandon San Giovanni said, ""Our very own Obi-Wan wi [sic] be saying "hello, there," on Disney+… May 2022." Following the Tweet being picked up by media, the Tweet was deleted and SanGiovanni's Twitter account was made private.
Although it seems like pretty solid evidence, Star Wars fans have been arguing about the validity of the Tweet. It seems unlikely that a Disney+ manager would get the release date of one of its most anticipated series wrong and it seems like a weird thing to joke about. The Hollywood Reporter has also backed the rumour, reporting that Kenobi will indeed be debuting in May.
May also seems like the perfect time to start a brand new Star Wars series, especially considering that The Book of Boba Fett will have ended by then. This year May 4, also known as Star Wars day, falls on a Wednesday, which is the premiere day for all original Disney+ content. It lines up pretty well.
On the other hand, it's possible that Brandon San Giovanni got confused and cited the release date of the previously-announced Obi-Wan Kenobi comic, which will be landing in May. To add to this theory, some are reporting that San Giovanni retweeted the announcement of the Obi-Wan Kenobi comic shortly before making the Tweet about the series debuting in May, which could explain the confusion.
With evidence supporting both sides of the story, it's worth holding onto a grain of salt until Disney announces something officially.
