Cyberpunk 2077 Has A Futuristic Porsche 911 Turbo

The latest Night City Wire showcases a behind the scenes look at Keanu Reeves riding a motorcycle and the fashion you’ll find walking the streets of the future. You’ll also find a strange throwback thanks to a collaboration with German automaker Porsche that also fits in with Cyberpunk 2077’s plot.

When Johnny Silverhand was still among the living, he owned a car. That car was a 1977 Porsche 911 Turbo, a vehicle that would be considered “classic” today, and would be a veritable antique in the year 2077. But that sort of fits in with the punk rock vibe of Johnny Silverhand, who is undoubtedly as retro as his car.

The Night City Wire video really only gives us a brief tease of what Johnny’s car will look like in Cyberpunk 2077, but Porsche just went out and made the whole car in real life. Their video shows Johnny’s 911 at the Porsche Museum at Stuttgart, where it will be on display starting today until October 22nd.

And apparently, Johnny’s ghost still hasn’t quite left his car behind.

Although decidedly dated, Johnny’s Porsche still has some futuristic enhancements such as a lidar attachment in the front, a set of sensors that allow aerial vehicles to spot it from above, and cameras in the mirrors that display on internal monitors in the cabin.

At the same time, it still has a tape cassette player which would have been a modern amenity back in the ‘70s.

“Johnny’s a legend of the Cyberpunk universe. When thinking about what kind of car he’d be driving through the streets of Night City, we knew it would have to be one just as legendary as he is,” said vehicle art director Paweł Mielniczuk, who is clearly a Porsche fan. “Having Johnny’s story in mind, and being huge fans of Porsche ourselves, the answer could only be the classic 911 Turbo.”

The only question is whether or not the car will still be called a Porsche in Cyberpunk 2077. The latest trailer made it pretty clear that Cyberpunk is going to avoid getting sued by renaming vehicles with clear modern-day inspirations, a well-used tactic in games like GTAV. Given this recently-announced partnership, Porsche might just be the only car brand that still exists in the year 2077.
