Blue Box Game Studios Says Abandoned Demo And Prologue Are Coming Early 2022

It's been a tumultuous year for Blue Box Game Studios. After announcing Abandoned earlier this year as a PS5 exclusive, rumors began swirling that the game was actually a secret Silent Hill project built in collaboration with Kojima Productions. To prove that wasn't true, Blue Box released the Abandoned "Realtime Experience" app to showcase the game's groundbreaking technologies.

That turned out to be a colossal disaster. The app was little more than a brief glimpse at Abandoned's dark and brooding tone through a short cinematic. No gameplay was shown, which angered quite a few fans to the point where Blue Box received several death threats.

In a Christmas Eve update, Blue Box acknowledges their many missteps in 2021 and tried to provide some context.

"Ever since we announced Abandoned being in development for the PS5 back in April, we faced multiple hardships within the development of the game," wrote Blue Box. "With the game being in development since 2017, the concept changed several times. And deciding to work on smaller games next to this title was a burden for us we shouldn't have started."

The teaser announced last April also didn't meet expectations, causing Blue Box to "rework on the entire game." This was followed by "lots of stress, missed deadlines, and a chaotic production" leading to the Realtime Experience App's release in August.

"We don't want to make the same mistakes again," Blue Box stated. "All of this has been nothing but a huge learning curve for us. We want to deliver a game that you can enjoy."

To that end, Blue Box will bring a brand new tech demo via the Realtime Experience app at "the start of the new year." This tech demo will demonstrate Abandoned's technology like it was supposed to last August, "showcasing visuals, audio and the DualSense Wireless Controllers' haptic feedback feature that adds a new layer to the horror experience."

Additionally, we should receive a prologue sometime in Q1 2022. Whether or not you believe Blue Box's promises after everything that’s happened with Abandoned this year is up to you, but personally, I’ll believe it when I see it.
