Baseball Player Gets Cameo In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

The new trend in AAA video games is having influencers get a cameo, but Assassin’s Creed Valhalla goes in a different direction. In its quest to be the weirdest game of all time, Valhalla cast a pro baseball player as a Viking.

Los Angeles Dodgers player Cody Bellinger plays Otta Sluggasson, which he said in an ESPN interview “translates to something like ‘power hitter’ or ‘big hitter.'” Otta apparently wields a large wooden beam and challenges the player to beat him in a challenge. He’s known for “hitting rocks very very far.” Bellinger did mo-cap work for the role and lent his voice.

The process behind the cameo can be seen in a recent Ubisoft behind-the-scenes video.

Bellinger expressed his love for Assassin’s Creed, saying that he and his brother would play it and that he considers himself a “video game nerd.” He was wowed by the opportunity to be a character in the game and talked about the recording process. He recalls having to shave his face for the mo-cap session and the joy of seeing his character model move like he did.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will release on November 10 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Google Stadia.
