Strong start for Vici Gaming and Aster in the DPL-CDA Professional League S2 playoffs
The second season of China’s DPL-CDA Professional League has entered the playoffs stage today, July 22, with eight squads fighting for a shot at the title. The tournament started a month ago with a total of 10 teams fighting for a spot into the playoffs through a four-week long group stage. In the end it was Team Sirius and iG.Vitality who didn’t make the cut.
The eight contenders at the title are Vici Gaming, PSG.LGD Gaming. CDEC Gaming, Team Aster, Sparking Arrow Gaming, Royal Never Give Up, Invictus Gaming and the previous season champions, EHOME.
VG and Aster are the first to have already secured a top six finish by starting the playoff run in a dominant fashion. Both squads took their first victories 2-0 and will fight against each other this coming Friday, July 24, for a spot into the upper bracket finals. VG executed Invictus Gaming in a one-hour semifinal series that finished 2-0 courtesy of a spotless Morphling performance from Zhang “Eurus/Paparazi” Chengjun. He closed game one with a personal K/D/A of 5/0/5 and went on doubling the numbers in game two, finishing 12/0/10.
In the other semifinal series, Aster played the first match with a late game scenario in mind and although they were led for the first 35 minutes of the game by Sparking Arrow Gaming (SAG), they made a full comeback on the back of Song “Sccc” Chun’s Terrorblade. The second game was a bit different, Aster being able to match SAG’s push power with a carry Nature’s Prophet, a mid lane Sniper and superior team fights.
While both Aster and VG will have a day to study each other’s playstyle, the two defeated teams, SAG and iG, will have no time to rest. One of them will end their DPL-CDA Professional League Season 2 run today.
