The Call of Duty League experienced a huge controversy at the London Royal Ravens Home Series event. Essentially, the Seattle Surge was forced to play in a 4v5 against the Royal Ravens. Unfortunately for Seattle, this was during the map four Hardpoint, which cost the squad the entire series. To add salt to the wound, that match would have pole-vaulted the Surge higher in the CDL standings. With all of this in mind, Seattle player Sam “Octane” Larew, among others, unleashed a tirade against the league. While this might have been necessary at the time, the league has apparently fined Octane for this behavior.

The CDL fines Octane for tirade

Once the Seattle Surge players took to Twitter to voice their frustrations, we knew a fine was coming soon. Previous reports by Call of Duty legend Seth “Scump” Abner indicate that the league doesn’t allow any public negative comments. If a league player makes a negative statement, then they can expect a hefty monetary fine.

Well, negative comments don’t really compare to what the Surge players did. After Josiah “Slacked” Berry disconnected from the match against London, Seattle players stopped holding their tongues. Octane, however, was the most vocal of the bunch.

In response to this, it seems the CDL has fined Octane and presumably the other Surge players. Octane’s previous tweets speaking badly about the league are now deleted, which was likely mandated upon him. He also sent out the tweet you see below, which is fairly telling.

Roughly translated, the above tweet means Octane was fined a hefty amount. Although, the assault rifle slayer doesn’t seem to care too much about that, or the rest of this year in general.

While Seattle Surge fans will argue until the cows come home, the ruling still stands. Hopefully, the Call of Duty League can take some time to reassess its process for map replays before the postseason arrives.
