Riot unveils The Champions Tour for VALORANT
Riot Games has announced the next big step for VALORANT esports. The VALORANT Champions Tour is a season-long competition that will stretch across North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia.
“The Champions Tour is our next step to grow VALORANT into a global esport worthy of the passion of our fans,” said Whalen Rozelle, Senior Director of Esports at Riot Games in the press release. “We’ve spent a couple of years now talking to players, teams, fans, prospective partners, and other stakeholders, and we’re extremely excited to launch our first official season.”
The Champions Tour will be split into three separate types of events in the form of Regional Challenger, Masters, and Champions.
- Regional Challenger events – teams play to advance to three, internationational Masters events
- Masters events – teams accumulate points to qualify for the Champions event
- Champions event – slated for the end of the year, the world’s top sixteen teams compete to be crowned global champion
The season is set to kick off in early 2021 with the first Regional Challenger events taking place mostly in February followed by the first Masters event in March and through to April. The remainder of the year will see these two events alternate each month.
The teams that do the best through these events will find themselves one step closer to competing in the VALORANT Champions event in December 2021.
This is a big step for VALORANT as it looks to water its new roots in the esports scene. Overall the Riot FPS has found success in attracting players and fans and this will almost certainly add to that.
