HellRaisers and Winstrike eliminated from ESL One Germany 2020
A double dose of elimination action was on the cards for the
first two series of ESL One Germany 2020 today, as two teams would progress
through into the fifth round of the group stage.
Ninjas in Pyjamas and HellRaisers would be the first two
teams to enter the battlefield today, both going into the series with 1-2 stats
in the group stage. This meant that a loss in the series would mean elimination
from the event, while the victor would move forward into the next round of modified
Swiss-format round robin group stage action. NiP took a fantastic game one,
claiming an early lead and never giving up their advantage until the GG call
came out.
With a Techies pick in game two, NiP seemed to just be
trying something new, but as the game progressed, this seemed to be the perfect
pick for their lineup. While getting constant kills throughout the early to
mid-game period, NiP were not pulling ahead, even allowing a fantastic turn
around from HR to come through. However, it wasn’t enough as NiP solidified and
fought their way back into the lead and eventually took the series 2-0. With
that, HR would be eliminated from ESL One Germany 2020, with NiP moving on to the
final round of group stage action, where their fate will be determined.
Following this would see Team Nigma battling Winstrike, with
the same constraints as the first series. For Nigma, they had already been upset
twice in the event – losing to both Yellow Submarine and mudgolems, and after
their poor form at the OGA Dota PIT Season 3: EU/CIS, they would be hoping for
a win to remain in the tournament. While Winstrike had seen a victory over HR
in round two, today was a much different challenge as Nigma seemed to find their
footing with ease. With Winstrike only able to muster up 10 and 11 kills in
each game respectively, Nigma were the better team by far, securing a simple
2-0 series win.
With that win, Nigma move on to the fifth round of ESL One
Germany 2020’s groups stage, with their final series deciding whether they will
make it into the playoffs. For Winstrike, unfortunately their tournament comes
to an end after suffering their third loss. One final series remains for the
day at the event at time of writing, with YeS taking on OG – with the
victorious team moving into the playoff stage.
