5MEN disband during the group play at EPIC League Division 2
The 5MEN adventure came to an end roughly four months after the stack was created. The team forfeited all their series in the EPIC League Division 2 group stage and all their matches, and those that have been played will also count as losses, the tournament organizer announced on Wednesday, November 18.
5MEN was formed on the 30th of July when Rasmus “MISERY” Filipsen and Johan “pieliedie” Åström joined forces with two former OG.Seed player and with Marcus “Ace” Hoelgaard and aimed to qualify for the OMEGA League, the first online tournament of the year that offered over half a million dollars in prize pool.
They did manage to qualify for the event, but during the group stage, they’ve been relegated to the secondary division, which boasted only a $50,000 prize pool. From there on, the 5MEN stack placed top 6 at best in the online events that followed and most recently they clinched a spot only in the secondary division of EPIC League as well.
After playing their first series in the event, and getting bested 2-1 by the former TEMPO line-up, now competing without a sponsor under the Spider Pigzs tag, 5MEN didn’t show up last night for the series against Gambit Esports.
Earlier today, EPIC League officially announced 5MEN withdrawal from the competition, followed by a few words to clarify the situation from Rasmus “Chessie” Blomdin and Misery.
Chessie cited lack of motivation inside the team to carry on, however, he expressed himself “impressed” with the results they had “despite the lack of practice”.
5MEN disbanded roster:
- Marcus “Ace” Hoelgaard
- Rasmus “Chessie” Blomdin
- Andreas Per “Xibbe” Ragnemalm
- Rasmus “MISERY” Filipsen
- Johan “pieliedie” Åström
