Last Of Us 2 Director Responds To Internet Hate

Seven years after the release of the original, The Last of Us Part II is finally out now on PlayStation 4. Even before release, writer-director Neil Druckmann acknowledged that some fans of the first game would dislike the sequel, and now that the game is out, he’s responded to more of the internet hate.

Speaking on former Nintendo boss Reggie Fils-Aime’s podcast, Druckmann said it’s worthless to fight against people when they share their opinions about a game–whether it be good or bad. However, Druckmann said he can’t understand how people get so worked up and upset about fictional characters.

“I think you have to create some separation to say, we made this game, we believe in this game, we’re proud of this game, now it’s out there and it’s like whatever reaction people have–whether they like it or not–that’s fair,” Druckmann said. “That’s their reaction and you don’t fight that. The other thing with the more hateful stuff, the more vile stuff, that’s a little harder. It’s especially harder when I see it happening to team members or cast members who play a particular character in the game.”

“We have an actor, she’s been getting really awful, vile stuff because of a fictional character she’s playing in the game,” Druckmann added. “I just have a hard time wrapping my mind around that. The thing I try to do is just ignore it as much as I can. When things escalate to being serious, there are certain security protocols that we take and I report it to the proper authorities. Then you just try to focus on the positives and focus on distracting yourself with other stuff. But it’s kind of just the reality.”

Also in the interview, Druckmann said he’s been speaking with Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin about this topic. They are currently working together on the HBO TV version of The Last of Us.

“I’ve had a lot of conversations with him about this stuff. He articulated it pretty well, it’s like people have to get educated. This is kind of the cost. When you’re doing something big, and you might disappoint fans, there is a cost to it now,” Druckmann said. “Which is, you’re going to get a certain level of hate, a certain level of vitriol that you just have to deal with. There is no other way to make it go away.”

Despite some portion of the audience disliking The Last of Us Part II, the game broke PlayStation’s sales records with 4 million copies sold in its first three days.

Ubisoft’s new battle royale shooter, Hyper Scape, leaks online

Ubisoft appears ready to announce a new first-person shooter, according to tweets sent by reporter Rod “Slasher” Breslau and others. Called Hyper Scape, the new title is said to be a “fast-based FPS Battle Royale.” A formal announcement could come Thursday, with a closed beta the week of July 6 and a full release as soon as July 12.

Word of Hyper Scape came on Monday in advance of any announcement by the developer and publisher. The leak was accompanied by several screenshots, which purport to show the near-final game in motion.

Hyper Scape is a free to play BR FPS set in a futuristic virtual world for both PC and consoles,” Breslau said, quoting unnamed sources, “with the console launch coming later this year including crossplay.”

Breslau went on to add that the game is being built with streamers in mind, and will include “never seen levels of integration” with Twitch. The streaming service’s chat functionality is said to be able to impact live games.

Today’s leak was accompanied by the release of what appears to be concept art from the game by Twitch streamer FFearFFul on Twitter. Ubisoft’s official Middle East Twitter account later retweeted the account.

Those bits of concept art led fans to discover a website for an in-fiction company known as Prisma Dimensions. It includes cursory details on its founder Mathieu Eiffel and its CEO Dr. Ivy Tan. The website features the Ubisoft logo.

“We build new frontiers that nurture, educate and connect the population,” the Prisma website reads. “We build technologies that push the limits of this world and offer an escape route to new dimensions. The site also appears to contain a description of a battle royale competition, called Crown Rush, set in a “virtual city:”

Iron Man VR Pre-Order Bonus, PSVR Bundle, And Deluxe Edition Info

After a series of delays–most recently alongside The Last of Us Part 2–PlayStation’s Iron Man VR finally has a release date. The PSVR exclusive will now launch on July 3, and if you want to be ready for its release, you can pre-order Iron Man VR now from a number of different retailers. If you need to buy a PSVR system, a new Iron Man PSVR bundle is available now and includes everything you need to play. There’s also a pre-order bonus for securing your copy early, as well as a digital special edition if you’re looking to snag some extra content.

As its name suggests, Iron Man VR follows the Armored Avenger on a brand-new adventure. In this story, Tony Stark has retired from making weapons and now uses his tech to fight evil as Iron Man. Several years later, he’s attacked by a villain known as Ghost, a hacker and anti-corporate activist who is now repurposing old Stark Industries weapons to attack his corporate locations around the globe. Aside from flying through the sky and facing off against Iron Man’s foes in high-stakes battles, you’ll also be able to upgrade Tony’s tech and customize Iron Man’s armor and abilities.

Iron Man VR is a PlayStation VR-exclusive, so you won’t be able to play it on the Oculus Quest or any PC VR headset. And since you’ll be playing as Tony Stark inside the Iron Man suit, you’ll be moving your hands around shooting down enemies. That means you’ll need the Move controllers as well as a PS4 and PlayStation VR headset.

Iron Man VR pre-order bonuses

If you pre-order Iron Man VR before its July 3 release date, then you’ll get yourself an Iron Man PS4 theme and four different custom armor decos. These armor decos swap the color of Iron Man’s suit. The four pre-order bonus skins are Iron Man’s Origin Armor, Vintage Armor, Silver Centurion Armor, and Ultraviolet Armor.

Pre-order Iron Man VR Standard edition | $40

Iron Man VR’s standard edition is available to pre-order both physically and digitally for $40 and comes with all pre-order bonuses if purchased before its release date.

Pre-order Iron Man VR Digital Deluxe edition | $50

Iron Man VR’s special edition is its Deluxe Edition, which is available to pre-order for $50. Unfortunately, there is no physical Deluxe Edition, so if you want the Deluxe Edition’s unique content, then you’ll have to buy Iron Man VR digitally on the PlayStation Store.

The Digital Deluxe Edition comes with the base game, 12 research points, a digital soundtrack, PS4 theme, and four Deluxe armor decos. These special armor skins are the Golden Avenger, Black Centurion, Sun Stinger, and Stealth variations of Iron Man’s suit.

PlayStation VR headset bundle

Sony announced a brand-new PSVR Iron Man bundle will launch alongside the game for $350 USD / $450 CAD in the US, Canada, and many South American countries. This bundle includes everything you need to play the game, including the VR headset, a PlayStation Camera, and a pair of PlayStation Move motion controllers. With the motion controllers currently sold out everywhere but required to play the game, this bundle is a hot commodity if you’re looking to buy a PSVR headset and Iron Man VR at the same time.

If this bundle sells out or you simply want to snag some different games along with your purchase, another great option is the PlayStation VR Blood & Truth and Everybody’s Golf bundle for $350, which comes with two great games and everything you need for Iron Man VR. If you’d like to save some money, GameStop sells refurbished PlayStation VR headsets for $150, though you will need to pick up a pair of Move controllers separately.

Two PlayStation Move controllers are required for Iron Man VR. Unfortunately, if you own a PlayStation VR headset and don’t own the controllers, you might have a hard time finding any of the Move wands in stock anywhere. With a list price of $100 for a two-pack, the Move motion controllers are sold out at many retailers, and it’s unclear whether they’ll be restocked by the time Iron Man VR releases. We’re not currently seeing them in stock at MSRP anywhere, so your best option is to buy one of the PSVR bundles mentioned above.

The Last Of Us Part 2 Hidden Trophies Guide: How To Get The Platinum

There are a whole bunch of Trophies to find in The Last of Us Part 2. Many of them are linked to scavenging, requiring you to scour the world for collectibles, weapons, workbenches, and other items and elements you can use to make yourself stronger and more survivable. A few, however, are about more story-focused moments, and they’re easy to miss if you don’t know they’re happening.

Lucky for you, we’ve tracked down every Trophy in The Last of Us Part 2 and we know exactly how to earn them. The guide below will point out where you can unlock each one. Be warned that this is spoiler territory, however, so go at your own risk. Any information you see beyond this point is liable to reveal story elements to you that are best discovered on your own.

Looks Good On You Trophy

Found: Seattle Day 1 – The Birthday Gift

You can get this trophy during the first flashback you play through with Joel and Ellie. The scene takes place in a museum, where the pair can visit a number of exhibits. Right after you enter the first room of the museum, you can find a brown hat on a rack, which Ellie will wear. As you wander through the dinosaur exhibit, you’ll then get the opportunity to put the hat on the various skeletons, and then take it back off.

While you’re going, pay attention for a chance to ask Joel to get him to try it on. You’ll want to move slowly through the exhibit and interact with all the dinosaurs, because the prompt to get the Trophy is contextual and you won’t want to miss your opportunity by going too quickly. After putting the hat on two or three skeletons, you should get an optional prompt to put the hat on Joel. Once you’ve done it, you’ll earn the Looks Good On You Trophy.

Sharpshooter Trophy

Seattle Day 1 – The Stadium

Before heading out from the stadium, you’ll drop by the armory and pick up weapons. If you spin around from the quartermaster’s table before leaving, you’ll see a shooting range where you can test your guns. You also have a chance for a little friendly competition with Manny. Your goal is to beat him in a shooting contest. The best way to do that is to score all headshots, which isn’t too difficult. Take your time and line up your shots–the assault rifle is probably your best bet for this one because of its larger magazine and faster rate of fire.

The contest isn’t especially difficult to win, and once you do, you’ll earn the Sharpshooter Trophy.

Put My Name Up Trophy

Seattle Day 1 – Winter Visit

The last hidden trophy pops up during a second flashback in the aquarium. You’ll reach it at the end of the Hostile Territory section, after dealing with Scars in a few abandoned, destroyed buildings. The Trophy is another shooting contest, recalling a similar moment in Uncharted 4. You’ll see a toy bow on the ground in the middle of the aquarium, with a bunch of cardboard targets scattered around the room. The contest has you shooting the targets, with the goal of hitting as many as you can before a timer runs out. You don’t need to be a sharpshooter here. Your accuracy in hitting the target doesn’t matter, and you can shoot them from anywhere. This one is all about speed, but the tough part is in anticipating how much the arrows will drop as your range to a target increases.

A good strategy is to try to spot all the targets before you start the game, so you know where to shoot–especially toward the end, you’re liable to run out of time trying to find your last few targets. It’s a good idea to save right before you start so you can quickly retry to minigame if you run out of time. Earn the high score and you get the Put My Name Up Trophy, completing your hidden collection.

The Last Of Us Part 2 Hospital Boss Guide – Seattle Day 2: Ground Zero

Note: We’ve gone out of our way to avoid spoilers for anything that happens in The Last of Us Part 2, but looking at any photos or reading any descriptions might give away plot details you’d rather now know. If you’re hoping to remain completely unspoiled, we recommend playing through the game first.

Surviving in The Last of Us Part 2 requires you to sneak past both hostile humans and the deadly infected–but sometimes, you have to fight. There aren’t many battles that could be considered “boss fights” in The Last of Us Part 2, but you’ll know them when you get to them.

Read on for the strategies that’ll help you get through one of The Last of Us Part 2’s toughest moments: the battle in the hospital during Seattle Day 2’s Ground Zero chapter.

Boss Fight – Giant Infected

You’ll face this boss as you explore the hospital basement in the Ground Zero mission. This thing is pretty similar to a Bloater–it’ll charge you and kill you if it can grab hold of you, and it’ll barrel through walls to come after you. It can also throw explosive objects at you, so you’ll need to be careful, but the creature’s biggest danger is that it’ll keep coming for you.

The area where the fight takes place is the real enemy here, because it’s easy to get boxed into a corner, lose track of where you are, and get run down and murdered. It’s dark and murky throughout, making it tough to spot doors, ledges, holes, and windows you can move through, but playing keep-away from the boss is essential. This thing will take a ton of punishment to bring down, so your most important goal is to keep your distance so you can protect yourself, do some damage, and craft items you need whenever possible.

Often the best way to deal with the boss is to find a spot where there’s a central pillar or object you can move around, forcing the boss to circle with you. You might not do a lot of damage during these portions, but you’ll be able to stay out of danger and plot your next move. It’ll take a lot of damage to kill the boss, so focus on staying alive and managing space first and foremost; you’re not going to bring it down by shooting it a bunch before it gets to you.

Go for high-damage weapons for this fight: pipe bombs, your shotgun (and its incendiary rounds), and the Hunting Pistol are all good bets, while you can save your other weapons for when ammo is low. The Flamethrower works too, but its shorter range means you’ll need to let the boss get close before you use it, and it won’t slow him down any. You’ll find lots of gear scattered around the area if you need it, but since it’ll often push you into corners, make sure you have lots of room to maneuver before going for it.

Do enough damage and a smaller Stalker boss will peel off from the larger creature, forcing you to fight two creatures at once. Keep an eye out for this guy but don’t worry about doing a ton of damage to him–if you hurt the large boss enough, you’ll win this portion of the fight. Shoot the Stalker when it comes after you to force it to leave, but watch out that it doesn’t tangle you up and make you vulnerable to being one-shotted by the larger boss. Keeping shivs on-hand will make getting away easier.

Keep running and dealing damage until the big boss finally goes down. The Stalker will have escaped, forcing you to find and kill it in the next area of the hospital, the morgue. Though the Stalker is dangerous, it’s not nearly as deadly as the big boss, and your experience fighting other versions of this enemy will come into play here. Use the strongest guns you have left to wallop it, and if you need to, try to get away so you can go into stealth and resume the fight on your terms. When the battle is over, you’ll be able to exit into the parking garage.

Top New Video Games Out On Switch, PS4, Xbox One, And PC This Month — July 2020

If this episode of New Releases is any indication, you won’t run out of new video games to play anytime soon. We’re taking a look at the month of July, which kicks off with Marvel’s Iron Man VR. You can also take to the skies in Rocket Arena just over a week after that. July is also time to protect your land, whether it’s an occupied island in Ghost of Tsushima or the Mushroom Kingdom in Paper Mario: The Origami King. Finally, the month wraps up with the Destroy All Humans remake.

Marvel’s Iron Man VR — July 3

After a few delays, Iron Man VR is finally giving us a chance to step into Tony Stark’s suit. As you’d expect, the HUD inside the PSVR headset resembles Stark’s FRIDAY technology, and you can use the Move Controllers to aim and fire your various weapons. Expect to see other Marvel staples like Nick Fury in the story too.

Rocket Arena — July 14

Available on: PS4, Xbox One, PC

Rocket Arena is a 3-on-3 shooter with just one weapon at your side: a rocket launcher. Thing is, each character has their own special rockets with unique effects. You can also customize your favorite hero with outfits, launcher parts, and stat boosts.

Ghost Of Tsushima — July 17

This is the next PS4 exclusive from Sly Cooper and Infamous developer Sucker Punch. You play as Jin, a samurai looking to liberate his island from Mongol invaders. You’ll do this with a combination of stealth and in-your-face katana combat. You’ll need to switch stances and time your attacks to parry and defeat your many enemies.

Paper Mario: The Origami King — July 17

Available on: Switch

The Mushroom Kingdom has been usurped again, this time by the eponymous Origami King Olly. Mario will have to use a new ring-based combat system to defeat enemies and bosses if he hopes to take the kingdom back. The origami style applies to the world too: you’ll be pulling and bending the environment to solve puzzles and explore.

Destroy All Humans — July 28

This is a remake of the original Destroy All Humans from 2005. Once again, you’ll be stepping into the space boots of alien invader Crypto as he extracts DNA from the residents of a midwestern town, using all types of alien weapons and gadgets. This remake includes content cut from the original game too.

Cyberpunk 2077 livestream reveals the ‘braindance’ and Mad Max-style mayhem

On Thursday, the team behind Cyberpunk 2077 revealed new elements of its highly anticipated role-playing game, including new gameplay mechanics. The Night City Wire livestream gave the world its first look at what it will be like to boot the game up when it launches on Nov. 19. It also revealed new features of its game world — including a wild new gameplay mode called “braindance,” which was drawn from the lore of the original tabletop RPG.

Here’s a rundown on everything we learned during the show.

Braindance

An entirely new feature shown off on Thursday is called a “braindance,” or BD for short. It’s a way for the player to access the memories of non-player characters, which can be experienced as a recording loaded directly into their minds. As it turns out, the concept of the braindance has a long history in the lore of the original Cyberpunk tabletop game.

In the video game, the braindance allows memories to be viewed in first person — through the eyes of the NPC — and in third person. The latter view looks a bit like flying a drone around inside the scene. As a result, players are able to scan the environment for clues to learn new information and help solve puzzles.

Recordings are captured in several layers, including visual and audio layers. But they also capture peripheral data in the background. The gameplay shown features a braindance of an armed robbery, which ends with the robber getting killed. There’s a security camera in the scene, and it’s up to the player to discover where that feed is being directed to. Once uncovered, a video within the braindance shows up, highlighting the robber’s killer.

It’s a clever way to build nested puzzles within the game world, and the developers said they’ve been spending lots of time over the past year adding more and more braindances to the game.

The Badlands

CD Projekt Red also spent a small portion of time discussing Cyberpunk 2077’s seventh and least understood environment — the Badlands. The massive area surrounds all of Night City, where the majority of the game appears to take place. The developers said it’s filled with “different types of open-world content” that players will be able to encounter sandbox-style. The action appears to be centered around Mad Max-style vehicular mayhem.

Finally, the team at CD Projekt showed off a brand-new enemy called Adam Smasher. Like the braindance, he’s got a bit of a history with the tabletop game. Where the Maelstrom faction believes in body modification and implants to become more than human, Smasher takes that to the next level. The massive, nearly 9-foot-tall man is almost entirely made of metal. Players will encounter him in relation to the game’s corporate storylines, as he’s most closely associated with the Arasaka corporation.

Additionally, CD Projekt announced a collaboration with Studio Trigger, the Japanese animation studio behind Kill La Kill, Promare, and Little Witch Academia. The Netflix series is called Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and its 10-episode first season is set to premiere in 2022.

Cyberpunk 2077 is coming to PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One on Nov. 19, following a recently announced delay. CD Projekt Red recently confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will also be playable via backward compatibility on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X when those next-gen consoles are released later this year — well in advance of when a true next-gen version of the game is available. The game is also headed to Google Stadia.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a new Cyberpunk 2077 anime from Studio Trigger

CD Projekt Red previewed new Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay in its Night City Wire livestream on Thursday, and also made a surprise announcement. In partnership with Netflix and Studio Trigger, CD Projekt Red will produce a new anime based on the Cyberpunk universe called Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. While taking place in the same universe as the game, the series will feature new characters and and a new story.

The teaser trailer didn’t show any of the series’ animation, but the story will focus on a street kid trying to survive in the future city, according to a news release. Over the 10-episode story, he will become an Edgerunner — an outlaw mercenary.

Fans know Studio Trigger for anime like Kill La Kill, Promare, Darling and the Franxx, and Little Witch Academia. Hiroyuki Imaishi of Kill La Kill and Promare will direct the series, alongside assistant director Masahiko Otsuka and creative director Hiromi Wakabayashi. Akira Yamaoka, of Silent Hill fame, will score the series.

“I’ve always loved cyberpunk as a genre, but always found it difficult to create as an original work,” said Imaishi. “This is why I’m very excited to be working with CD Projekt Red on this project. It won’t be easy to please both game and anime fans, but I love a challenge.”

The first season is scheduled to arrive on Netflix in 2022.

After a recently announced delay, CD Projekt Red will launch Cyberpunk 2077 on Nov. 19 for PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One. Players can upgrade to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game for free. The multiplayer aspect of the game will arrive next year.

Ghost Of Tsushima Pre-Order Guide: Pre-Order Bonuses, Special Editions And More (PS4)

Ghost of Tsushima, one of the last major PS4 exclusives, is now less than a month away. Initially planned for June 26, PlayStation announced Ghost of Tsushima will now release July 17–just one month after Sony’s other major game for the year: The Last of Us Part 2, which hits this Friday, June 19. Ahead of its release, PlayStation showed off around 18 minutes of new Ghost of Tsushima gameplay in its latest State of Play livestream on May 14, and we got an up-close look at the game’s open-world exploration, combat, stealth mechanics, character customization, and much more. It also has multiple pre-order bonuses and editions available to pre-order.

Developed by Infamous series studio Sucker Punch, Ghost of Tsushima is an open-world action stealth game set in feudal Japan. You play as one of the only samurai to survive the Mongol invasion of the island of Tsushima in 1274. Your job is to sneak around, fight enemies, and take the island back.

Ghost of Tsushima gameplay first deputed in an E3 2018 trailer, giving us our first glimpse at its stunning world. Reminiscent of traditional samurai films, we see the protagonist, Jin, in the Otsuna Grassland. He squares off with three Mongol invaders to meet up with his ally Masako. Not only is the open world absolutely breathtaking, but the battles are also beautifully choreographed to fit into the picturesque beauty of feudal Japan.

In addition to the release date and story trailer, Sucker Punch released a slew of pre-order information for Ghost of Tsushima, including multiple special editions and pre-order bonuses. Ghost of Tsushima pre-order bonuses

Ghost of Tsushima has a few pre-order bonuses available for securing your copy early. For pre-ordering the game, you’ll get a Jin avatar, a mini soundtrack featuring select songs from the game, and a Jin PS4 dynamic theme based on Ghost of Tsushima’s box art. At this time, no retailer-exclusive bonuses have been announced, but they’re sure to come, so stay tuned.

Pre-order Ghost of Tsushima standard edition

The standard edition of Ghost of Tsushima will come with just the base game and any applicable pre-order bonuses. It’ll cost you $60 as usual. The physical launch edition is available at select retailers. You can also secure your standard digital pre-order at the PlayStation Store.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla creative director steps down, accused of sexual misconduct with fans

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla creative director Ashraf Ismail has stepped down from his role at Ubisoft following allegations of an extramarital affair and sexual misconduct with fans.

“I am stepping down from my beloved project to properly deal with the personal issues in my life,” Ismail announced in a tweet. “The lives of my family and my own are shattered. I am deeply sorry to everyone hurt in this.” His announcement comes days after accusations of affairs with younger fans.

“Ashraf Ismail is stepping down from the project to take a leave of absence,” a Ubisoft representative confirmed to Polygon in an email. “The development team is committed to delivering a great game in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.”

This follows a recent outpouring of stories primarily from women who are speaking out about abuse and misconduct from other prominent figures in the gaming industry. Several other Ubisoft employees have recently been accused of sexual misconduct.

“We are deeply concerned by these accusations,” Ubisoft said to Gamasutra in response to accusations of recently publicized misconduct and assault from other employees. “We take any allegations of abuse or harassment very seriously and we are looking closely into the allegations to determine next steps.”

Ismail was leading the development for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the next game in the series and the first one to release on the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X. He previously served as game director for Assassin’s Creed Origins. As the name suggests, Valhalla is set in the viking era, meaning players will be able to explore southern Scandinavia and explore Norse mythology. More information about the title will likely come during Ubisoft’s E3-replacement showcase in July.
