Oculus Quest VR Horror Livestream: Layers Of Fear, Affected, And More!

For today’s livestream we’re diving into Layers of Fear VR on Oculus Quest, which just released, as well as checking out some other VR horror titles on the standalone headset like Affected: The Manor. If you’re curious about how we livestream the way we do then look no further than this handy guide for general tips and this guide specific to our Oculus Quest setup.

Now that Layers of Fear VR is out on Oculus Quest we figured it would be a good time to dive in for good ol’ quality summer scares. In addition to this newly adapted horror adventure we’ve also got a new update for Affected: The Manor, plus Five Nights at Freddy’s VR next week, and a slew of existing games like Dreadhalls, Face Your Fears 2, and The Exorcist VR

The VR horror stream is planned to start at about 11:00 AM PT and will last for around two hours, give or take. We’ll be hitting just our YouTube and I’ll be streaming from the Quest wirelessly with Jamie and/or Zeena joining via audio call to hang out and help out with chat.

You can see the VR horror stream featuring Layers of Fear VR, Affected: The Manor, and more embedded via YouTube right here. Set a reminder if you’re reading this early! –

You can see lots of our past archived streams over in our YouTube playlist or even all livestreams here on UploadVR and various other gameplay highlights. There’s lots of good stuff there so make sure and subscribe to us on YouTube to stay up-to-date on gameplay videos, video reviews, live talk shows, interviews, and more original content!

And please let us know which games or discussions you want us to livestream next, VR horror or otherwise! We have lots of VR games in the queue that we would love to show off more completely.

Games With Gold July 2020: 3 Free Xbox One Games Members Can Get

July is in full swing, which means there’s a new round of free Xbox games to grab. Like usual, the lineup includes two Xbox One games and two backward compatible Xbox 360 games. In what’s becoming a trend, July’s Xbox One offerings will likely be of interest to racing and sports fans.

All throughout July, you can grab WRC 8 FIA World Rally Championship, a rally racing game that released last year. WRC 8 has a robust single-player career mode and more than 100 tracks across 14 countries. Online multiplayer boasts weekly challenges and an esports mode with tournaments. New to the series with WRC 8 is the dynamic weather system, which alters track conditions by introducing elements such as rain and snow.

The second Xbox One game, Dunk Lords, will be available from July 16 to August 16. Dunk Lords is a beat ’em up basketball game with a large cast of characters with unique attacks. It’s over-the-top by design, combining arcade basketball with combat. Dunk Lords has a story mode that can be played solo or cooperatively with another player, a cooperative gauntlet mode, and an arcade mode that supports up to four players.

For the first half of the month, subscribers can claim Saints Row 2, the Xbox 360 era open-world action game which puts in the role of the leader of the Third Street Saints. Saints Row 2 is where the franchise started to lean into a comedic tone, separating itself from the similar gameplay style of Grand Theft Auto.

And in the back half of the month, you can grab Juju, a cute platformer starring a shaman panda and his lizard pal Peyo.

Some of June’s freebies are still available now, so don’t forget to grab them before they’re gone. Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse and Sine Mora are free until June 30, while Coffee Talk is free until July 15.

Ahead of the Ubisoft Forward livestream, Ubisoft has kicked off a massive sale at the Ubisoft Store, discounting the majority of its back catalog on PC. The Ubisoft Forward Sale runs until July 20, so you have some time to shop. If you’re looking to round out your collection of Assassin’s Creed or Far Cry games, now’s your chance. Many of the games are on sale for new low prices, and if you add promo code UBIFORWARD at checkout, you’ll save an additional 20%.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla releases later this year, and while the promotion isn’t extended to the upcoming Viking adventure, you can save big on every other game in the franchise. To kick things off, the Assassin’s Creed Animus Pack, which includes every AC title and DLC, is discounted to $148.40. Add the promo code and you’ll knock the price down under $120. That’s a phenomenal deal for more than 15 games.

If you’re looking for individual titles in the series, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is discounted to $19.80, Assassin’s Creed Origins is $12, and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is only $6.80.

Far Cry 6 leaked and was later confirmed ahead of the livestream, but we’ll have to wait until next year to play it. In the meantime, you can catch up with some great deals on the first-person shooter franchise. The Far Cry Platinum Pack includes every entry for $72.80 ($58.24 with the promo code). You can also grab individual titles in the series for $10 or less, with Far Cry 5 down to $9 and Far Cry New Dawn discounted to $10. Far Cry games will also be on sale at other storefronts next week, though we don’t know which ones just yet.

Other tentpole Ubisoft franchises are also on sale. Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Ghost Recon Wildlands, and Rainbow Six Siege are discounted to $15 each. Meanwhile, Rayman Legends, one of the best modern platformers, is down to $7.50, and Rayman Origins is $6.80. Finally, Watch Dogs 2, one of the best open-world games of this generation, is only $10.

You can browse the full sale at the Ubisoft Store and see our picks below. While all of the deals are available on PC (played via the Uplay launcher), some are also available on PS4 and Xbox One, which we’ve noted those below. Half-Life 3, Left 4 Dead 3, And A Souls-like Scrapped By Valve

Geoff Keighley’s bold new documentary experience Half-Life: Alyx – Final Hours contains an incredible look at developer Valve, including a number of their scrapped projects over their history. A post over at IGN details all of the notable projects that have been shelved over the years, detailed within the documentary.

So what are the big ones? Half-Life 3, of course. Apparently that one would have included elements of procedural generation, which certainly would have been interesting. Be sure to check out our own deep dive into the history of the many incarnations that Half-Life 3 may have taken over the decades. Half-Life 3 is the one that perpetually gets away, it seems.

Left 4 Dead 3 was apparently an open world zombie-slaying experience set in Morocco. Hunh. Would have liked to have seen that one…

Perhaps the most interesting of the scrapped projects was one known as “RPG” that contained elements of multiple “core” game experiences like Dark Souls and Monster Hunter. Sadly it looks like that one never made it past the concept stage.

There are many other projects, of course. Big game houses like Valve often have laundry lists of games that never see the light of day, making it to various stages of early development before they’re axed. IGN breaks down all of the forgotten projects mentioned in the documentary here. You can check out Half-Life: Alyx – Final Hours on Steam.

Soda Dungeon 2 Is Now On Steam

Soda Dungeon 2, the free-to-play game about using soda to attract various adventurers to your tavern, is now available on Steam. While it’s not quite a pure “idle” game, it’s definitely a relaxed affair as you collect and gear up adventurers like huntresses, dark mages, nurses, and thieves. Outside of the turn-based combat, you make many choices as to what pets to take along, what gear to craft and upgrade, and how to best manage your constantly evolving tavern and town.

Putting together the right composition and engaging in meta progression over many dozens or hundreds of runs is the recipe, and with an auto-combat function you can craft your gear, pick your team, and then “set it and forget it” for something you can leave running while you watch a movie, answer emails, or take a Zoom call.

Soda Dungeon 2 is also available on Android and iOS if you want to take your passive dungeon crawling on the go. Check out the launch trailer below!

Add Another Year To Your PS Plus Subscription For Just $33

With many people still stuck inside because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re all looking for ways to entertain ourselves as the weeks drag by. To help people pass the time, many publishers are giving away free games that you can claim and keep, but several subscription services also get you free games along with online multiplayer access, both of which are handy to have these days. For PS4 users, that’s PlayStation Plus, which gets you two free monthly games, online multiplayer, exclusive discounts, and more for $60 a year. Right now, however, you can snag a year of PS Plus for a fraction of the price.

Over at Ebay, you can get a year of PS Plus on sale for $33 via reputable seller NeoGames. While the listing describes the product as a “subscription card,” this is an emailed code you’ll receive within 24 hours (we confirmed this by purchasing a code ourselves). After receiving the code, you can then redeem it in the PlayStation Store. As a reminder, PlayStation Plus memberships can be stacked, so if you already have an active subscription, it’ll be extended by 12 months.

How To Get More Pearls In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Pearls are a new resource in Animal Crossing: New Horizons that you need to craft the summer update’s new mermaid-themed DIY recipes. They are also extremely rare, and so far there are only two official ways to actually get them. If you want to get more pearls in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, here’s what you need to do.

How To Get Pearls In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

  • Dive To The Ocean Floor – While swimming in the ocean, just dive down when you see columns of bubbles rising to the surface and chase the deep sea shadow until you catch something. More often than not, you will come up with one of the 40 new sea creatures added in the new summer update, but if you’re super lucky, you might find a pearl.
  • Trade Scallops With Pascal – Pascal is a recently-arrived visitor who will appear once a day when you dive down and find a scallop, though not always on the first scallop. He will offer to trade you for it. Most of the time, you’ll get a mermaid DIY recipe or mermaid clothes, but sometimes he will gift you a pearl. The rate that he gifts pearls over mermaid recipes and clothes is still unknown.

These are the only official, confirmed ways to get a pearl in Animal Crossing: New Horizons right now. Neither of these methods require any special tools, but you will need to purchase the wet suit to start swimming and diving, as the only place you can find pearls is in the ocean.

Farming Or Grinding For Pearls

There’s no official way to farm pearls or grind for pearls in New Horizons that doesn’t require “time traveling,” or adjusting the system clock on your Nintendo Switch to force-skip days. If you decide to time travel, the only possible way to get more pearls would be to grind for sea creatures until you get your daily Pascal encounter.

Nothing about the time or day seems to affect the likelihood that Pascal will give you a pearl, so this would just be a way to exhaust numerous Pascal encounters in one sitting with the hopes of getting pearls. Again, it is time-consuming, some players consider it cheating, and your turnips will not survive the time skip, so proceed at your own risk.
